Dynamite to Launch ‘Alice Cooper’ Comic Book Series in September

Dynamite Entertainment has become quite the iconoclastic publisher in its tenth year, releasing comic books featuring Doc SavageFlash Gordon, the Gold Key characters including Solar, Man of the Atom and Turok, Dinosaur Hunter and the newly-announced Django/Zorro crossover. But its latest news takes things to a different level.

The New Jersey-based publisher has announced the upcoming release of an ongoing comic book starring Alice Cooper, to be written by X-Files writer Joe Harris with art by Eman Casallos, that recasts the rock legend as the guardian of humanity’s dreams.

“Artistically, for me there is hardly a better medium,” Cooper said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “There is so much you can do in the form of a comic that we’d never been able to do on stage. It’s just a different way of storytelling, and it really has almost limitless possibilities. We’re looking forward to stretching the existing boundaries of the comic medium again. We have new stories to tell, but we’ll do it with the same theatrical, sinister sensibility that comes with the name ‘Alice Cooper’. This is just the beginning! Welcome to my new Nightmares!”

I always thought someone should do an Alice Cooper MOVIE. No, I don’t mean a documentary concert film ( both of which numerous ones have already been made ) but a DRAMATIC THEATRICAL FEATURE FILM based on the Alice Cooper character. It could be partly fictional & partly semi-autobiographical with elements of horror, dark comedy and, of course, feature music. Concerning the possible concept, it occurs to me that in the early days of the Alice persona ( when he first created it and began performing it ) Coop would often state in interviews and stuff that he was the reincarnation of a Victorian era witch ( which is why it had that strong gothic element ), so maybe it could be based on THAT and have a kind of POSSESSION theme?

I just love the way he keeps moving forward while remembering the past.

  • Beautiful. I’m so happy. Alice is problaby my favorite artist. Very inteligent, never stopping. Please, don’t forget São Paulo. I’d love having the opportunity of watching you live at least once in my life. I know it’s a unique concert.
